Description:
This summer, Whole Theatre presents: a new play, a one woman show, Cry of the Mountain, a documentary play about Mountaintop Removal in Appalachia, conceived and performed by Adelind Horan. Every Thursday in July, 2010.
This is wonderful and simple piece of theatre in which Adelind portrays a wide variety of people involved with and affected by Mountaintop Removal in Appalachia. The characters are performed verbatim from interviews she conducted last summer while volunteering with iLoveMountains.org.
One performer, thirteen characters. Funny, intimate, simple, bold. Adelind moves elegantly between characters with the poise of a performer like Anna Deavere Smith. One by one the stories of the people unfold like an intertwined ecosystem as rich and complex as the Appalachian Mountains themselves.
Come to Cry of the Mountain prepared to enjoy the power of live theatre, the freedom of laughter, the pleasure of a banjo on a front porch, and the desire to save a mountain.
