Description:
For 17 years the live arts gala has set a benchmark for sustainable celebration; conservation is built into the dna of the event . (“If it’s sustainable, the party lasts longer!”)
We spend less on this event than any other comparable fundraiser (typically .20 for every dollar we raise). We ask scores of local restaurants to donate an ingredient or two and our chefs turn it all into a four-star meal.
With hundreds of volunteer hours, we turn everyday objects into amazing decor. Year after year, we save materials so we can reuse them. We put our diverse, amateur performers in the spotlight and let them shine. We borrow things (from bulldozers to camels) and ask people to see them in new ways. This year, the sustainable practice that has marked this event for 17 years, moves center stage. We…
- reveal the magic
- unchop the trees
- ask tiny pieces of paper to do the work of large ones
- unstuff shirts (and recycle the stuffing)
- put down the spray paint
By asking questions of sustainable practice at every turn, we celebrate that a theater, a community, a party, and a world are all intricate machines, in need of good stewards.
