YOUTH & TEEN SPRING CLASSES:

SPRING BREAK CAMP: IN THE SCENE, BEHIND THE SCENES (GRADES 5-7 and 8-10) APRIL 3rd-7TH      SOLD OUT!

Light House Film and Video StudioLight House Studio and Live Arts present the IN THE SCENE: BEHIND THE SCENES Workshop, which simultaneously introduces young filmmakers to the crafts of on-camera performance and visual storytelling. In a combination acting/filmmaking workshop taught by a Live Arts acting coach and a Light House filmmaking mentor, young artists will spend half of their camp time studying acting and the other half learning basic camera operation and visual storytelling techniques. Along the way they’ll create a short film which will be presented on Friday 4/7 at 3 pm showcasing the skills and abilities of the group.

This year the workshop will have two sections open to two different age groups: Grades 5-7 and Grades 8-10.

  • Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm

TREASURE TRUNK THEATER (AGES 4-6)

Does your child beg to wear dress-up clothes to kindergarten? Would your child rather play imaginative games than eat? Then Treasure Trunk Theatre is the perfect class for them.  Each day we’ll open up the treasure trunk to reveal new possibilities. Through guided use of simple costumes, props, and sets, children will use their imaginations to explore body awareness and vocal expressivity to create new characters and stories. Along the way they’ll develop key skills of cooperation and social interaction. This workshop will culminate in a demonstration of the games and exercises the children play.

KIDS ON STAGE (AGES 7-10)

In this introduction to acting, children will learn the fundamentals of an actor’s craft through fun games, improvisations, and acting exercises, which will build their confidence, self-esteem, and stage presence. The class will end with a short demonstration for family and friends based on familiar poems or stories.

BE SCENE – AUDITION AND PERFORMING TECHNIQUES FOR TEENS (AGES 13-18)

Who are you? What do you want? How can you get what you want?

Using techniques from Stanislavski, London, Meisner and Adler, develop the skills to authentically bring yourself to any acting role, audition and to your life! In a safe, supportive environment you will discover how to choose monologues and scenes that match your unique qualities. You will learn to make strong, clear choices and develop the courage to be seen by casting directors, agents, and audiences!

This fun workshop is for all levels – from the curious, but never acted before, to the auditioning actor. Prepare to be seen!

Guest Instructor Freddie Simpson has over thirty years experience as a professional actor, teaching and acting coach in Los Angeles. She co-starred in the classic baseball movie “A League Of Their Own” along with Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Rosie O’Donnell and Jon Lovitz. Freddie also had leading roles in the movie “Popcorn”, “Thunderboat Row” and others. She co-starred in the Tracey Ullman Show, The League Television series, and the soap, General Hospital as well as over 20 national commercials in the United States and Europe. Freddie was a founding member of Zoo District Theatre Group in Los Angeles, acting and starring in numerous productions.

In Los Angeles, Freddie taught acting to kids from ages 5 – 18 with All About Kids, an inner city performance group. She is the co-founder of Artful Healing Healing Arts – whose mission is to awaken, open the heart, express and be present for life using drama, writing and the healing arts. Freddie’s teaching style is compassionate, intuitive and joyful. Her passion is helping humans live from the heart!

Cast your blues away and shuffle off to Buffalo! Students ages 8-88 will develop rhythm, style, and sound through Broadway-style tapping. Designed for beginner/intermediate tappers, these classes will focus on learning fun combinations for tapping your cares away! Please wear comfortable clothing and tap shoes.

  • Instructor: Lyn-Dell Wood
  • Time: Tuesdays 5:45 – 6:45pm
  • Dates: April 4 – May 30; Nine classes total

ACTORS’ LAB: THE BASICS

Whether you are exploring acting or the first time or want to brush up on your skills, the Basics class is the perfect forum. Classwork includes exercises, improvisation, and scripted monologues and scenes presented in a supportive atmosphere. Class will attend the Live Arts production of The Realistic Joneses.

ACTORS’ LAB: PLAYING THE SCENE

How do actors bring a script to life? Working with scenes from such master playwrights as Chekhov and Miller, we will explore the actors’ tools. Classwork will include approaches to script analysis and guided in-class presentation of scenes. Class will attend the Live Arts production of The Realistic Joneses.
