Molly Bishop Shadel is a law school professor at the University of Virginia and an avid theatergoer. She earned a degree in English from Harvard University, where she spent most of her time directing plays and studying Shakespeare. She started an M.F.A. in directing at Northwestern, but withdrew after realizing how difficult a career in theater can actually be. She then directed plays in New York for a couple of years before retreating to law school at Columbia University. Molly clerked for a judge in New York, practiced law at Covington & Burling in both New York and D.C., and worked as an attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Intelligence, where she represented the United States before the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court in an effort to thwart spies and terrorists. She joined the faculty at UVA in 2005.
