Live Arts Welcomes Back Bree Luck As Interim Artistic Director!
Live Arts is thrilled to announce the return of Bree Luck as Interim Artistic Director on September 1.
Bree joins us at a pivotal time, following the dedicated four-year tenure of Susan E. Evans, and will help guide the organization as we begin a search for our next Artistic Director.
Many of you know Bree from her previous role as Producing Artistic Director at Live Arts from 2016 – 2019. Since then, she has built a career as an independent consultant and podcast producer, and we are delighted to have her back—even if just for a short while—to support our transition and upcoming season.
Bree will provide artistic leadership for productions already in motion for our 2025/2026 Season of Passion, including AIRLINE HIGHWAY (opening October 3 in the Gibson Theater) and WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN (opening December 5, also in the Gibson).
“The magic of Live Arts has always been its volunteers, and it’s a privilege to reconnect with them,” Bree shares. “I’m eager to meet new artists and makers, swap stories with old friends, and roll up our sleeves to forge theater and community together.”
Executive Director Lisa Capraro adds, “Having Bree step in at this moment is invaluable. We are deeply grateful to her and to all who made this possible. Like many arts organizations nationwide, Live Arts is facing funding challenges and rising production costs, yet we are energized to launch into our 35th year in downtown Charlottesville. We couldn’t do it without the extraordinary dedication of our volunteers, donors, and audiences.”
Over the coming weeks, Live Arts will share updates on the Artistic Director search process, including opportunities for community input through listening sessions and surveys. We hope all of our stakeholders will take part in shaping the vision for Live Arts’ future.
